Skoda Elroq : Skoda has been teasing us with electric dreams for a while now, but the Elroq finally brings it home.
This compact electric SUV hit the global stage last year, turning heads with its fresh design and solid promises on range and tech.
As deliveries kicked off in Europe early this year, whispers about an India launch grew louder, especially after its flashy debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.
A Fresh Face in Skoda’s Lineup
The Elroq isn’t just another SUV; it’s Skoda’s first fully electric compact model, built on the proven Volkswagen Group MEB platform.
Slotting between the larger Enyaq and the upcoming smaller Epiq, it replaces the popular ICE-powered Karoq with a zero-emission twist.
What stands out right away is the “Modern Solid” design language. Gone is the traditional butterfly grille—instead, there’s a sleek “Tech Deck Face,” a glossy black panel hiding cameras, radars, and lidars without any awkward protrusions.
Segmented LED daytime running lights frame it neatly, while the sharp LED headlights sit lower, giving the front a purposeful, futuristic vibe.
The sides keep things clean with smooth lines, a large glasshouse for great visibility, and wheels up to 21 inches.
At the back, C-shaped tail lights and “SKODA” lettering echo the Enyaq but feel right at home on this midsize body—4.49 meters long with a 2.77-meter wheelbase. Aerodynamics shine too, with a drag coefficient of 0.26 thanks to active vents and air curtains.

Power and Range That Deliver
Under the skin, the Elroq offers three battery options to suit different needs. The base Elroq 50 packs a 52kWh battery and 170hp rear motor, claiming over 370km WLTP range.
Step up to the 60 with 59kWh and 204hp for more than 385km, or go all-in with the 85’s 77kWh unit and 285hp, pushing past 560km—real-world figures around 400km-plus for most drivers.
Performance feels measured and confident, not a frantic dash. The top version hits 0-100kph in 6.6 seconds and tops out at 180kph, perfect for highways.
An AWD 85x variant adds a front motor for better grip, coming later. Charging is quick: 10-80% in 25 minutes at up to 175kW DC for the big battery.
On the road, power builds purposefully—no sudden jerks like some EVs. It’s refined, with low noise levels even at triple-digit speeds, though wind around the A-pillars creeps in at Autobahn paces.
Inside: Practicality Meets Tech
Step inside, and the Elroq feels spacious for its size. Rear passengers get ample leg and headroom; my 5’8″ frame sat comfortably fore and aft. Seats are well-bolstered, with a flat floor thanks to the EV layout—no transmission tunnel cramping things.
The dashboard wings out dramatically, centering a massive 13-inch touchscreen for infotainment, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and more.
Below it, physical buttons handle drive modes, hazards, and shortcuts—HVAC is touch-only, but intuitive. Sustainable materials abound: recycled PET bottles for upholstery, fishing nets for nylon.
Boot space starts at 470 liters, expandable to 1,580, with clever nets and trays everywhere—even one under the parcel tray for the charging cable.
Up to nine airbags, full ADAS suite with predictive cruise control using GPS and signs, and a digital cluster keep safety sharp.
Driving Impressions: Solid and Sure
I got behind the wheel during a sunny drive in Europe, and the Elroq impressed with its composure. Ride quality smooths out bumps without the jiggle some EVs suffer, even on 20-inch wheels. The tight turning circle—9.3 meters for RWD—makes parking a breeze in tight spots.
Steering weighs up nicely in sportier modes, feeling controlled and reassuring through corners, though it’s no hot hatch.
High-speed stability shines on unrestricted roads, holding line effortlessly. Efficiency is a highlight; it sips power smartly, making those range claims believable.
One nitpick: the digital instrument panel feels tiny and non-customizable. But overall, it’s a relaxed cruiser that inspires confidence, ideal for family runs or long hauls.
India Buzz: Coming Soon?
Skoda showcased the Elroq at Bharat Mobility 2025 to test waters, and response was strong. No firm launch date yet—mid-2025 was the talk, but as of now, it’s under consideration alongside the Enyaq.
Expected around Rs 50 lakh ex-showroom if it lands, it could rival Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, BYD Atto 3, and Volvo XC40 Recharge.
Price parity with the Karoq in Europe suggests competitiveness, especially if localized. Skoda’s EV push includes three models globally soon, with India in mind.
The sporty RS version debuted at Milan Design Week 2025, hinting at more excitement ahead.
Skoda Elroq Why the Elroq Matters Now
In a world shifting to EVs, the Elroq nails the everyday practicalities Skoda fans love—space, reliability, value—without skimping on green creds. It’s not the flashiest, but its honest engineering shines through.
